Dio Chapter 4

"Before The Battle"

The dog.

How does he try to find the dog? This is New York city, there's like a million dogs that looked the same as each other. And more too.

Donald walked in the shadows of the alleyways, avoiding the sunlight, knowing full well from Dio's blood imprint that the sunlight can kill him. He tried his best to hide from the rays, going from one alleyway to another, zipping in blinding speed, hoped that the sunlight would never touch him. They might not be your normal vampire, but they too have about the same weakness as a normal vampire does.

Well, except Holy water, they're okay with that. And the crucifix, they have no problem with that too. Okay, so it was only the sunlight that made them and the normal vampire similar. '

He then zipped into a dark, long alleyway. This one ended up with a wall on the other side. A dead end alleyway. He walked slowly in it, looking around the trash cans and everything, searching for the dog. A dog, whatever.

Funny enough, by the millions of dogs in New York, he can't even find one right now.

Cats are everywhere though.

As if on cue a cat came out from a trash bin. Donald got an idea and grabbed the cat with his heightened agility. He carries the cat with him to the middle of the alley and stopped. He put the cat up in the air with his hands and squeezed. The cat Meowed and screamed and shrieked in a cat's way.

Not the best of ideas, Donald is starting to think. What resulted wasn't what he wanted. He thought maybe the dogs would come out and try to eat the cat or something but what did come out however, are more cats.

Donald froze in his place as the cats all emerge from their hiding place, all around Donald. There had to be like, hundreds of cats in the dark long alleyway.

Donald then pulled the cat he was squeezing, still alive, down to his chest level. He turned around, looking at the whole alleyway. Yep, endless stream of cats.

He then had another idea. Mayhaps all I have to do is just convince these cats I'm not someone to fool around with, so what Donald did was that he squeezed the cat in his hand until the cat's head exploded. Eyeballs were flying, brain pieces were scattered all over Donald and the cats, the skull cracked into thousands of pieces.

All the cats backed up and hissed as the blood splattered around them and the tiny flesh pieces were falling on them, beside them, behind them and everywhere. They looked back at Donald, gave him a hiss.

With the combination of all the cats in the alleyway, the hiss was very loud and almost annoying. Again, Donald found out his ideas were not as good as his master's, as all the cat in the alley started to pounce on him.

Donald gave a loud shriek as he was being flooded by the endless stream of cats.

"Ugggghhhh... stupid cats..." Donald exclaimed, getting out of the hallway, using a stick to support him. He was scratched all over himself, battered and bloodied. Of course, he also killed about three quarter of the cats in the alleyway.

Then, he realised where he was. He looked around and saw the crowd of people on the streets looking at him. He looked up and saw that he was in front of a large building. Lucky thing that the building blocked out the sunlight from banishing him out of existence.

Realising that he's making a huge scene of himself, he turned around to try and get away from the onlookers. But just as he turned he saw something that made him stop. He saw a man, a woman and a little dog walking on the street. Something about them made him feel all curious. A twinge of wanting to know swam all over his head.

Maybe that's the dog. And if he's lucky, that'd be the woman.

He zipped behind a lampost, following the targets, designated "triplet".

He followed them from behind, not so far away, and not so near. He zipped from lampost, to bench to trash cans, unbeknownst to himself that eyes are looking at his odd behaviour.

Then they stopped. Sadly for him, they stopped in the sunlight, but that doesn't mean he can't look at them from behing the... he looked...

The postbox.

Ahhh, whatever, he thought to himself and looked at the "triplet". The dog is missing. He looked around for the dog and saw that the dog was nowhere to be found. But then, the man and the woman walked over to a newsstand, and that's when he saw the dog was on top of the papers and magazines on the newsstand.

They were talking to someone. And he was definitely sure that they weren't talking to the guy, who he assumes is the owner, at the stands. The guy at the stand was staring blankly at the other end of the street, which made Donald look as well to see what this guy was seeing.

He looked and saw nothing but cars going by and people walking on the street. Donald shrugged it off and looked back at the newsstand and everyone was missing. The targets have gone away from view, go into red alert.

He zipped in front of a bus, then in front of a car and then another car and crossed the street. Those cars provided him with good protection from the sunlight and the rays were shining on the street. And with his blinding speed, the drivers never even knew something zipped by them.

He stood behind the newsstand, hiding in the shadows. He looked at the newsstand and the shutters were down. Weird. Closed up already? He looked up and saw that the sun is still shining bright, it's about noon time or somewhere close to that. A little bit early to close up, isn't it? He thought to himself.

He was looked around the stand in hopes to find the "triplet" but no such luck. And then he heard something.

"Best damn investigative reporting on the planet, son"

It was from inside the Newsstand. Ahhhh, that's why they closed up early, Donald thought. And this confirmed his suspicion that that dog IS the dog. And if this suspicion is correct, then there can be no denying it, that girl is the girl as well.

He leaned over the shutters to hear what they're conversing about with this alien voice he's hearing.

He was sure there were four beings inside though there were only three voices. One voice belonged to the girl. Another he assumed to the man, and there's another voice. The brooklyn accent on this voice was evident and the voice was at the point of annoyance sometimes. I guess this is the voice of the information supplier, Donald thinks.

He silenced his thinking to hear the voices.

"Page three, I think,"

"The Weekly Keyhole"

"Vampire loose in New York?

Our highly reliable sources have given us clues as to the whereabouts of yet another supernatural creature roaming our streets at night. Okay, maybe that pack of wolves in the zoo weren’t really were-beings, and maybe that man running around in the lizard costume on Halloween wasn’t really Godzilla, but this is definitely genuine, folks. It seems two men have been wandering the streets at night and at least two people have died on the same night these two were seen in their respective proximities. The first noticed, a young man known for wearing a blue cowboy hat, seems restrict himself to hunting in areas surrounding the Empire State building. The victims found in this area commonly have small puncture wounds around their neck, and as everyone knows, only normal vampires leave those types of marks. The second, a blond man, is known to hunt around Central Park. The bloodless bodies around here are generally drained from the upper torso, though there are five holes on their bodies instead of the trademark vampire two. The pair never seem to come near each others’ areas. We urge our readers to TAKE CAUTION and TO NOT WALK THESE AREAS AT NIGHT!"

Oooh, they're talking about us, Donald snickered.

"Two vampires?"

"Maybe Dio has an apprentice... at any rate, we should pack up and get out of New York as fast as--"

"No, we can’t go. Not yet."

"But Anna..."

YES! It is the girl, Donald whispered to himself in victory.

"Fine... but I’m not bailing you out again if you get into trouble." "Liar. You’ve done the ‘knight in shining armor’ bit before, and you’ll do it again"

A knight? Hmmmmm... there's a hero in their midst, Donald was thinking but his thoughts were interrupted when he heard the gilr saying,

"Our first target is Central Park, I guess"

They're coming for the master. He leaned over to maybe hear of more information, but he was tapped from behind by a couple of police officers. They asked him what he was doing and he replied with a hiss like the cats did at him and jumped away. The cops yelled for him to stop and followed him from behind.

Well, at least he's got some information, now to report to lord Dio.

Dio had already made himself a throne. He was hiding in the shrubberies of the park, where the sun doesn't shine. The throne was made of human bones. He thought of that maybe he can use the dead people's carcass for something that can benefit him. In truth though, he hated this place. Other than his throne, everything else was alive. The trees, the leaves. He hated the fact that he is in a place where everything is living.

He had fashioned the trees to bend a bit so that it will form a dome, and he made sure all the leaves cover up any hole that might make the sun's ray penetrate into the dome. Basically, he had created a green dome. And ironically, he hated green.

He sits on his throne, thinking, pondering.

Maybe this trip to New York was a bad idea. Or at least he needs a better place to reside in rather than this green dome. He'll look into that tonight. For now, he'll just wait for his new follower to report to him.

And as if on cue, Donald came into the dome, panting and sweating.

"What have you been doing, my boy?"

Donald knelt in front of Dio, head looking down to the ground.

"My lord, I am reporting of the dog and the women. They're coming here to try and kill you."

"Really? How interesting. Were you chased by them?"

"No, my lord, they don't even know I was spying on them, but I was chased by two police officers."

"Ahhh, good, you've brought me my lunch."

Donald smiled and stepped aside as the two police officers came into the dome, guns pointing towards Donald and Dio. The cops were gasping for air, and luckily for them, this dome was made of trees.

"All right, freeze, punk!" one of the cops said.

"And who's your friend right here?" another one asked.

"Please, officers, there's no need for violence." Dio exclaimed.

Donald grinned as Dio walked slowly to the two officers. He lets the cold hard steel of the gun touch his chest. He raised up his hand and wrapped his fingers around the barrel.

"After all, everyone is welcome to my throne room in New York." Dio continued.

The police officer backed off and tried to take his gun with him, but Dio's grasp on it was strong. The cop can't even try to budge. He lets go of his gun and took out his night stick.

"Let go of my gun, freak!" and he lunged towards Dio, but in a split second, Dio's hand went through the man's throat. The police officer was trying to breath with Dio's hand in his throat, he was struggling, hands swaying everywhere. The other police officer froze in his place, trembling at the sight of his partner being choked with a hand not wrapped around the neck, but through it. He was shaking even more evidently when he saw that his partner was becoming more and more skinny, as if the blood in him was draining out.

The cop draw his gun towards Dio and was about to shoot until he felt something plunge into his back and grabbed his spine. He tried his hardest to look back and saw Donald, grinning at him. After that moment, everything went black for him when Donald took his spine out of his body.

Dio dropped the lifeless corpse of the officer that he sucked dry and pats Donald on the head.

"You're a good boy. Worthy of leading my New York army."

As he finished that sentence, a whole group of people stood up from behind Dio's throne and Donald found out that Dio had been busy during the few hours left of last night before sunrise. There were a lot of different people in the dome with them now, eyes glowing and sharp teeth glaring. Dio had created his own Army of Darkness in New York.

Dio sat on his throne, putting one leg on top of another and resting his elbows on the arm rest, putting his head on his right hand.

"Come then, Anna... I'm waiting."
