Yun and Yang Chapter 3

"Inferno Fury"

The audience cheered. This was the title bout they have been waiting for. All bets were on Yun while only a few bet on Spartacus. Everyone knew Yun was a surefire bet. Yang stood just outside the ring. He wore his usual long trenchcoat. Yun nodded to Yang who nodded in return, and then turned his attention back to his opponent. He had to win. Yang was counting on him. His grandmother was counting on him. He was counting on him. His heart beat rapidly, his body became increasingly fueled with adrenaline. Spartacus cracked his knuckles, amused at the young dragon's confidence.

"You know you're gonna lose, kid, so why don't you just give up now?" Spartacus asked.

Yun winked. "Sorry, but you're the one who's gonna lose."

Tension laid on the two fighters. Yun cupped his left fist in his right hand and bowed deeply, showing traditional respect for his opponent. Then he went into his fighting stance. All his boyish cheerfulness disappeared. He stood tense and still, moving only by his heavy breathing. His expression was dead serious, his eyes fully concentrated like a raging dragon, ready to explode. Spartacus, too, went into a fighting stance. He chuckled at Yun's seriousness, thinking that the boy was playing a game. Deep inside, however, he trembled. He could feel that inner power bearing on him and he was frightened.

"Fight!"

The bell rang. Spartacus made careful circles around his opponent, anticipating his move. Yun remained as still as a statue, not moving, completely focused. That inner power beared more and more on Spartacus, frightening him with each second, until he couldn't take it anymore. With a gigantic battle cry, he leapt at Yun and a full-force punch. Yun crossed his hands in front of his chest to block and was shoved a few inches back. Quickly, Yun whirled around his opponent and elbowed Spartacus to the side of the head. He back-flipped away, narrowly avoiding a backhand attack by Spartacus. Though the gladiator was slow, he was quite strong. Yun prefered to take fights how they came, but at some times, it was better to take Yang's advice and sum up his opponent a little.

"Is that all you have?" Yun asked, raising his hands. He launched himself at his opponent. Spartacus held his hands open, ready to grab him. However, Yun was ready for that. he waiting until he neared Spartacus before kicking him in the jaw. Spartacus recovered quickly, and reached out again. He grabbed Yun's leg and slammed him onto the mat. Yun winced. Single-handedly, Spartacus raised Yun in the air by the leg and slammed him again. And again. Each blow sent a new bone-jarring pain to Yun's back.

"What an upset, ladies and gentleman!" the announcer yelled. "It looks like the newcomer, Spartacus, has more than one trick up his alley! Will the champion, Yun, recover in time, or is it lights out for the Storming White Dragon?"

With each time Yun was slammed on the mat, Sparticus' laugh became more maniacal. "C'mon, boy. Is this all you've got? Go home to your momma." He raised Yun's leg, ready to slam him one final time. He slammed his arm down.

At the last second, Yun pushed his fists down, minimizing the impact. Spartacus' eyes went wide in disbelief. "Wha...?"

Yun grinned and slid his foot out of Spartacus' grasp. Using his arms he sprung himself to his feet. "Wise man say, 'Don't count your chickens before they hatched.'"

Figuring he had to make the first move, Yun ran forward and jumped at Spartacus, at the angle for another jump kick. Spartacus held his arms forward again to catch him. Yun managed to squirm away from the range of the hold, slapped the back of Spartacus' hands and flipped over to Spartacus' back. Quickly, he summoned his chi and spread it outwards, making two other shadow copies of himself. Yun and his shadow copies went straight to work, pounding and striking away with blinding speed. The shadow copies increased Yun's speed and damage by threefold. Seven seconds later, the shadow copies vanished. All sound faded with them. As if time slowed down, Yun laid the final blow - a spearhand to Spartacus' windpipe. The gladiator fell to the ring and was not able to get up. He was defeated. The bell rang again.

"The winner and seven-time champion is....Yun! With his self-patented move called Gen'ei Jin, he managed to win yet another title bout!"

The crowd went wild - the crowd that bet on Yun, that is. Those who foolishly bet on Spartacus either stormed out of the arena or tore up their tickets, crying. A lovely asian lady sauntered to Yun and handed him a large bag containing the prize money. Yun held the bag high over his head. The crowd roared, chanting his name. Though Yun fought not for glory, he couldn't help going on a little ego trip.

"Tell me...boy... why do you fight...?" Sparticus choked.

Yun turned around, giving Spartacus his cold fighter's stare. "I don't have to tell you."

"Then let me... tell you something boy..." Spartacus choked. "People like me... have nothing to lose. We fight because we... don't have anything... left in life. You're still young... Don't waste your life down here. Live your life... to the fullest..." With those last words said, he closed his eyes and fell unconscious.

Yun turned away and looked down. 'You're wrong. I don't fight because I want to throw my life away. I fight because I have loved ones to protect.'

Yang walked up to his brother. He had heard Spartacus' words and was deeply concerned about his Yun's feelings. "Yun..." he said softly.

Yun put his hand on Yang's shoulder. He knew Yang had overheard. "Don't worry 'bout him, Yang. Point is, we won tonight. Let's get the money and go home. Grandmother's counting on us."
