Yun and Yang Chapter 19

"Considerate Brother, Part 1"

Noon arrived. A horn sounded across the port to signal lunch break. Two every day sailors happened along, chatting nonsense to each other. They decided to check out the restaurant on the other side of the port. That's where they came upon the body of an unconscious Yang. Slight dripping noises eminated from his head. That was his blood forming a small pool underneath him.

Gasping frantically, the sailors ran to him. One sailor checked for a pulse. "He's alive... barely." he noted to his companion. He gently lifted Yang's head. To his horror, the young man was still bleeding badly. Thick blood filled his hand. "Quick! Call an ambulance. We gotta get him to the hospital!"

"Right away!"

An ambulance arrived to fetch Yang. With the aid of the sailors, he was deposited into the ambulence. Then, sirens blaring, it rode away into town. The sailors watched the vehicle depart, holding their hats over their chests.

"The poor young man. May God save you." one prayed with a bowed head.

The second turned to his companion. "Hey, is it just me or did that kid look familiar?"

"Come to think of it, yeah." the first nodded. "He looked exactly like the missing Yang Lee." He then noticed the large crater in the wall by where Yang had laid. "I wonder what happened to the poor lad..."

While she lay in bed, Grandmother Lee often amused her boredom by reading or listening to the radio. Today was the radio. The sounds of everpresent news broadcastings were the only sounds available.

Yun stood outside her room, looking outside the window which faced her door. Deep down, he was relieved - no, overjoyed to see Yang again. Enough to eat and take a long-needed shower. Still, as he looked out the window, he couldn't imagine why Yang was acting so strangely. It couldn't have been Yun's fault, could it? Yun tried his best to be a considerate big brother. 'Blaming things ain't gonna help my problems... But... I just don't know what to do about Yang.'

"And just in from an anonymous informant. Today at the port, a young man in his late teens was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood. Local sailors were reported to have..."

The phone rang. Yun made no motion to answer. Grandmother Lee answered for him.

"Yes...?" She looked over at Yun's direction. From the looks of things, he wouldn't respond if called to. "He's not available at the moment. May I take a message?"

"...reports also said that the young man bared a striking resemblance to Yang Lee, of whom had disappeared..."

Yun raised his head. "...Yang..."

"...several days. He was promptly taken to hospital..."

Grandmother Lee returned the phone to the receiver. "Grandma..." Yun spoke, beating her to the verbal punch, "He ain't comin' back."

From Yun's sullen mood and from the reports of Yang's injuries, Grandmother Lee was able to put clues together as to what had happened. "It's not your fault, Yun. You've done your part as the elder brother."

"You can only do so much..." Yun replied quickly.

Grandmother Lee smiled. Though Gen never appreciated it, she admired how Yun was so quick to answer. "A little love goes a long way. Under it all, you do wonder how he is doing. I rarely see you become upset over anything. And when you do, it's always over Yang."

"Big boys cry. So what...?" Yun muttered.

"...where he's in critical condition. From suffering prolonged blood loss, it's not clear if he will make it out alive..."

"Damn you, Yang..." Yun whispered.

"The phone call was for Yang." said Grandmother Lee. "Will you sit there or check up on him? He is your brother after all..."

When she turned her head, Yun had already left. Grandmother Lee sighed. In Yun's haste, she didn't get the chance to tell him Yang was still in the emergency room. "That boy worries me..."

"His pulse is slowing down! He may not make it."

"Stay calm." the doctor ordered. "Hook him up to the revival machine if necessary."

Yang lay, unconscious, on a surgeon's table. Clad only on a blue hospital robe, he was hooked up to an IV unit and other various life sign monitors. His head rested on a soft pillow stained with a little blood. Thankfully his head was patched to stop the blood flow. His breathing was slow. His skin was pale from the large amount of lost blood.

"I don't understand, sir," spoke the second nurse, "We've patched up his wounds and bone fractures. He didn't lose enough blood to require a donation. And also, our monitors show no signs of brain tumors or the like. In all respects he should be fine. So why is he..."

The double doors burst open. From the few seconds the shutters were open, the doctor and his crew saw various security guards lying unconscious along the floor. All due to Yun's handiwork, of course. He slowed down considerably as he approached his brother. Yang's presence was fading fast. No matter how hurt Yun felt on the inside, it hurt more to have half of him dying in front of his eyes.

"Yun Lee, I presume?" the doctor stepped forward. "I understand your concern for your younger - " He glanced at Yang's face, then Yun's, and noticed a striking resemblance. " - twin brother, but let me assure you we're doing everything we can. As you can see, he's rapidly dying. Now if you will please wait outside patiently..."

The doctor's words went in Yun's ear and out the other. He bit his lip. Gently, unconsciously even, his hand grazed his brother's. His deep emotions spoke before his hatred stopped him. 'Don't die, Yang.'

Immediately upon touch, the life monitors increased. Both the doctor and his nurses gasped in amazement. Now the doctor understood what one of his nurses meant earlier. He stripped off his surgeon's mask. "Come. Let us leave them time to themselves."

"But why, doctor?"

"There are some things which a doctor can't heal."

The doctors and his nurses left. Yun was left alone with his brother. Once he was sure they were alone, Yun gripped Yang's hand - of which was near cold - with both of his. Yun's hands trembled into a tight squeeze. He lowered his head.

"Yang... little brother... " he whispered. Fresh tears dripped onto his hand, and Yang's. His hardened strength softly melted. His emotions poured out so fast, he couldn't stop them. "Don't die. You mean everything to me."

Yang's lifelines increased a little more.

"Without you... I'll have nothing left..."

Yun's tightened grip was moistened by his tears, and a few fell on Yang's hand as well. "It's my fault, Yang. I wasn't there to protect you. But now I'm gonna keep you safe. I swear to you, Yang. No matter what happens, I'll protect you."

"...Big brother?"

Yun jerked his head. He wiped his tears with his arm, then looked up to see Yang looking back at him. The younger twin's eyes lost the cold, heartless glare, instead emitting the gentleness he once had.

Yang wondered if he was dreaming. Yun was by his bedside, probably to say more condemming words. Wearily, he struggled to speak. "Big brother..."

"Don't speak, Yang. Save your strength." Yun interrupted, breaking into a tender smile.

'Big brother...Yun is.... smiling?!'

Upon hearing Yang's conscious condition, the doctor and his nurses burst into the room. "I'm sorry to interrupt, young man, but we need to send your brother to a hospital room. He needs to rest." the doctor spoke.

Yun nodded. He slowly loosened his grip from Yang until it was no more. While Yang was wheeled away, Yun followed until the cart went too fast for his walking speed to follow.

"Say, 'aah'!" beckoned Altacea.

"I've said 'aah' a million times already, woman." Blacksoul sighed, exasperated. But he let her feed him anyway. It's been so long since Blacksoul was in the hospital, he didn't keep track of the time. He looked down, clenching his fist. "Yun Lee... I swear when I get my hands on you, I'll crush you like there's no tomorrow."

One of Blacksoul's men in black opened the door. "Begging your pardons, boss, but Lady Succubus wants a word with you."

Blacksoul perked. "Send her in."

Succubus entered, with hands on swaying hips. She bore her usual subtile confidence. Blacksoul sat as straight as he could.

"I see that you are well." said Succubus.

"Cut to the chase, Succubus." Blacksoul growled. "Did you get rid of the Twin Dragons?"

"That I did. And it was quite a spectacular finish too. 'Tis a pity you were not there to witness it yourself." Succubus replied slyly. "Brother versus brother is always tragic, especially when one loses in the end. I'm afraid the loser may not survive. And if he does, neither will wish to see the other ever again."

Blacksoul raised an eyebrow. He was confused by Succubus' words, but gathered that she was successful - the Twin Dragons were no more. "You have done well, Succubus. Please return to my hideout. Your payment awaits underneath my desk in a brown briefcase."

Succubus bowed. "Thank you, my lord."

Altacea hugged her master protectively, glaring at Succubus to say, "He's mine. Hands off." Succubus took the hint.

The door was opened for her and closed when she left. Hearing the noise of a wheeling cart come to the scene, she looked over out of curiosity. What she saw did not please her. The person in question was none other than Yang. She sensed that he was quite alive and back to normal, whatever normal was for him.

'This will not do.' she thought. 'A more forward direction must be taken. If Lord Blacksoul finds out that both brothers are alive and well, I may be in deeper trouble than I need.'

She vanished before anyone saw her.

"I'm terribly sorry, young man, but you can't enter. Your brother still needs to sleep." the nurse informed, acting as a barracade between Yun and the door.

Yun shifted his weight from one leg to the other. "Yeah, I understand." he said, scratching the back of his neck. "I'll be back later, then."

Donning his skateboard, he left.

The nurse smiled to herself as she watched Yun leave. Once no one was in sight, she reverted to her regular form - Succubus - and entered.

Yang was far from asleep. Rather, he was staring at the ceiling, lost in his own thoughts and confusion.

'I don't understand...' he mused. 'I've never seen big brother smile that way before. Yet, he smiled that way to me... why?'

"Silly kitten."

Yang shot upwards, ignoring the pain which seared through his back. He glared at the oncoming intruder. Instead of returning his hostility, Succubus merely smiled and raised a hand. Soft waves of unseen energy emitted from her palms. Yang felt himself become faint, then succumbed and fell back unconscious.

'Silly, silly kitten.' Succubus shook her head in a teasing fashion. 'Don't you know that I can control those of weak minds? Your mind is still weak. You're nothing but a helpless kitten on my leash.' She leaned over to whisper in his ear. "Don't forget... your brother is stronger than you are. Do you still want to be second best? Do you still want him to take away all your love and glory? If you don't want those to happen, remember your mission when he returns."

Satisfied, Succubus vanished without a trace.

Around the corner from the hospital was the Sanrio Shop. Yun knew this place well - it was one of his brother's favourite places to go as a child. [Note: Sanrio is the company that makes merchandise and stuff for Hello Kitty, Keroppi, Baditzmaru, etc.] Yun hadn't been there for awhile. Thus, the girl behind the counter didn't recognise him as he placed a large Hello Kitty plush on the counter.

"How cute." she mused. "Is this for your girlfriend?"

"Sibling." Yun corrected. He didn't have time for large details should he say the plush was for his brother.

Soon, the toy was bought and paid for. "Have a nice day!" the girl waved.

"Yeah... you don't know the half of it." Yun grinned to himself. He whirled away on his skateboard, remembering to dismount once arriving inside the hospital. Floor 3, room 3a. Yun didn't have the patience to wait for the elevator, especially after seeing a considerable pile of people around that area, so he took the stairs.

Once on the 3rd floor, he zoomed as fast as he could towards Yang's room. When who should he run by but a man in black. Yun recognised the emblem perched on the man's jacket - it belonged to Blacksoul. 'The BS prick's still alive?' Yun wondered.

The man in black looked up from his watch. "Hey! You're that brat...!"

"I can't rest when your boss is still around, can I?" Yun grinned teasingly.

"You little..." the man in black pulled a gun from his pants pocket. Yun quickly jumped out of the way, avoiding the bullet, but accidentally let the Hello Kitty plush slip from his fingers. The bullet shot cleanly through the center of the plush's forehead. Quickly, Yun spun around, sweeping the MIB off his feet, then chained into a Senkyuutai. The man in black regained his footing only to have his face planted into Yun's awaiting fist. Instant KO.

Yun dusted off his hands. He glanced at the 'dead' pile of fluff (which still looked cute despite a bullet hole in the center of her forehead). 'Ah well, gotta get a new one.' Yun thought. 'Yang would have a heart attack if he saw that thing. Wait...! Yang... Yang! He's still ailing and he's in danger!'

He dashed off, stepping on the man in black's head in the process.

Yun burst open the door to Yang's room. His urgency erased the fact in his mind that Yang may be still sleeping. "Yang! We gotta get outta here. The men in black who captured you are here! I got to get you to safety. You're in no condition to..."

His reverie was cut off once he looked at his brother. Yang stood before him, glaring dangerously. Once again, his eyes were cold and empty and his aura was nothing but hatred.

"Die."
