Yun and Yang Chapter 18

"Clash of Karma - Yun vs Yang"

The boat arrived at Hong Kong around 9 am. Yang boarded off before anyone had the chance to speak to him, whether it'd be the captain, the crewmen, or that strange Remy character. He looked at the surrounding areas and breathed his native air. Luck had it - he was at the port just outside his village. His village...? No, the village where Yun lives. This was Yun's home where Yun was welcome. Yang narrowed his eyes.

'It's now time to see who's the stronger one.' he thought.

Remy came up from the cabin in time to see Yang walked away. 'Good luck.' he silently wished.

There was something different about today. Harsher winds, a cloudy sky, even the atmosphere itself. Tsuchin, sensing something that most others could not, frantically scratched on Yun's door to get his attention. The elder twin dragon had barricaded himself in his room once more He was currently occupied with looking at himself in the mirror, making a futile attempt to recreate his brother's hairstyle, then glomping the mirror, calling it Yang.

"Meow...mrow...meoww...!!"

When mere scratches failed to faze the thick-headed Yun, the white cat resorted to crying out as well. Finally, Yun caught attention but only after he sensed the same feeling she did. With a sweep of his arm he threw away the furniture which clogged the doorway. "What... is... it... Yang's... cat...?" he asked slowly.

"Meow...meowww!!"

Yun's heart was racing. He absentmindedly trailed closer with unfocused eyes. "Is it feeding time already?"

Tsuchin responded by scampering away, then looking back. She wanted Yun to follow her. Just as absentmindedly, he followed behind. He let her outside when she scratched on the door - something he wouldn't normally do if he was sane enough - and donned his skateboard to follow her down the streets. In his state, he didn't question why Tsuchin was acting so strangely, nor did he try to stop her. His instincts were telling him to follow. His less-strained, racing heart was saying so as well.

The people were trying to tell him something. A warning...? A premonition even? But in his state, Yun didn't even know the people existed. To him, they were mere blurs, obstacles to ride around, even. His one focus was on Tsuchin. He didn't even realize where she was taking him as they neared the ports.

The cat sped on ahead. She leapt straight into to the one she seeked, of whom was looking at the ocean over the guardrails. The young man jumped in surprise, and blinked a few times at the white kitten perched on his shoulder.

"Tsuchin..." he whispered. A small smile crept his face and he cradled Tsuchin in his arms. The white cat meowed softly and rubbed her face across his chest.

Yun caught up a few moments later. In shock of who he saw, he slipped off his skateboard. He managed to regain his footing. The skateboard, however, fell out of his grasp and rolled towards the feet of that certain someone. The certain someone he was longing to see for ages.

His lips opened to speak.

"....Yang..."

Yang turned around. His arm dropped, and Tsuchin landed on the ground. She watched with sad eyes as her pet approached his brother.

"....Yun..."

"'Yun'? What happened to 'big brother'?" Yun grinned playfully. It was then he realized Yang's eyes were not the way they used to be. There was no more warmth left - only hardness and emptiness. "What happened to..."

The younger twin dragon stepped forward. "Let's fight now, Yun. I'll prove to you who's the stronger one."

Yun was taken aback. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Back the truth trolley up a bit, little bro'. What the hell are you talking about? 'The stronger one'? There ain't no such thing. We don't gotta fight."

"Yes we do." Yang retaliated.

At once, Yun recalled the words his grandmother said to him on her deathbed. She spoke to him specifically of Yang, and now Yun understood. He looked down. The brim of his cap covered his eyes. "Does this have to do with your inferiority complex towards me?"

Yang halted. Yun was right on the money.

"You think gran didn't know? You think I didn't know?" Yun continued. "Listen, Yang, you're my little brother. We did everything together. We ate together, slept together, fought together, even went to the bathroom together. We're the Twin Dragons. We fight together as a team, not against each other. Besides, I can't help it if I'm great, handsome, wonderful, charming, witty and an incredible fighter but there's no good reason for you to feel the way you do. You're just as..."

"Shut up and fight." Yang muttered.

When Yang answered by going into his fighting stance, Yun realized the person who stood before him was not his little brother. The people were right. Yun's search for his brother was in vain. He shrugged. "Look, I don't know what you're talkin' about. All I know is that you ain't the person I was expectin'. Maybe you know him. So let me make this clear to you -" Yun crouched into his fighting stance. His eyes shone a rare glint. For now that a blue moon had arisen, he was serious.

"- I want my brother back."

Yun and Yang stood motionless, sizing each other up. A moment later, a gale blew to signify the beginning of the match. Yang made the first strike. He crouched down - Yun knew he would either run straight ahead or stop short of striking range - and readied a Zesho Hohou. But the moment Yang's foot went off the ground, he vanished!

"What the...?"

The white dragon's shock was cut off by the repeated strikes of Yang's Torou Zan. The final attack - an elbow straight to the pressure point in the center of the ribs, sent Yun flying. That was enough for Yang to follow up with a Senkyuutai. Yun came crashing to the ground, and barely had time to stand to see Yang vanish again. Yun guarded high but was not fast enough to parry, only block. Using his newly enhanced speed, Yang quickly recovered from the knifehand slash into a foot sweep. He went back a few paces in case Yun was to counter with a wakeup move. Yun stood, panting heavily.

'What the hell...? How the hell is Yang doing this?'

"Too slow!" Yang declared and vanished again. Yun leapt in the air to avoid a ground attack and parried an upcoming Senkyuutai. Yang landed first and sprung into the air, while Yun was still airborne, and slammed the cap-clad one down. Yun anticipated a dive kick and defended himself. That was his downfall as Yang saw it coming. Instead, Yang pushed Yun slightly backwards with a Byakko Soushouda, then bounced away, narrowly avoiding a Zesho Hohou. Yang caught Yun's fist between his feet and tossed him away. While Yun flew in the air, Yang disappeared...

"RAISHIN MAHHAKEN!"

...and stabbed Yun multiple times to various pressure points. Yun skid-rolled on the ground a few times before coming to a stop. He grabbed his throat, coughing up some blood. His body was paining. In all the times they sparred together, he never imagined Yang could make so much progress so quickly. But the one nagging thought crossed his mind. How the hell was Yang doing his disappearing act? It couldn't be from tapping any dark energy, Yun felt none.

"Time to end this, Yun."

Yang crouched down for a split second, but that was all Yun needed. Grinning, Yun held out his fist at the very last second, of which Yang collided into it with his gut. Yang choked from the stun, and Yun followed up with a series of quick attacks, ending in a Kobokushi to knock Yang away.

'I get it...' Yun thought.

Yang dashed up the side of a wall, then leapt off, heading towards Yun.

'...that fancy disappearing act...'

Yang disappeared again. All that was tracable of him were loud crashing footsteps coming Yun's way.

"...is nothing more than a sprint!" Yun declared with an anger fueled fist. The elder brother noticed, as he struck, that Yang appeared to hurt more than usual when he was attacked. 'You may be faster, but you hurt more from attacks. It hurts more to run into a wall than walking into a wall, ya know.'

But it seemed Yang was oblivious to his new weakness. Panting heavily, clutching his arm, he kneeled down. "I'll finish you quickly. Then I'll prove who's stronger."

Yun grinned. "You can try."

Yang dashed forward with his Kaihou. Instead of going straight towards Yun, he bounced to the right, to the left, springing from the guardrail to the wall, and straight down.

"RAISHIN MAHHAKEN!"

Yun looked up and smirked. They didn't call him the Storming White Dragon for nothing. His style was to wait for the enemy to come, then smash 'em hard and run to safety. 'You may be fast, little bro', but so am I.'

Yang thusted forward with the initial spearhand, and was in shock when Yun dodged. The younger spun around with a snifehand to the neck, then continued with his furious attack, only to have those attacks dodged or parried away. The last thing he saw was Yun's grin.

"YOU-HOU!"

Yun lifted Yang in the air with a punch, juggled with a shoulder bash, theh slammed his fist as hard as he could, sending Yang flying. As Yang landed, Yun dashed forward with a full-range Zesho Hohou [EX Zesho Hohou]. Yun's fist connected with Yang's face, and smashed Yang head-first into the wall, creating a giant crater. Then, he stepped back, and Yang fell to the ground.

Blood spurt from his mouth. Yang's entire body trembled. He couldn't move from both pain and shock. The world was beginning to go black. He couldn't open his eyes, but he felt Yun raise him by the collar to whisper in his ear. Yun's breathing was heavy and warm.

"Get outta my town."

Yun dropped him to the ground. Muttering some nonsense - something along the lines of, "My little brother's dead after all," - he rode away on his skateboard. Tsuchin realized Yun was right and left with him.

The gentle Yang of before was gone for good.

Yang lay, facing death. Death, no - disgrace. All his worst fears, his dismal fantasies, had become reality right before his eyes. Yun was stronger than he - both of mind and body - and now Yun hated him. A lone tear trickled down his cheek before darkness surrounded him.
