"Let It Rain" What started as a light sprinkle now became a rainshower. The water spattered on the windows, arousing Yun from sleep. His ribs ached slightly - a side effect from them not completely healing. Rubbing his head, he forced himself out of bed. From the moment his feet touched the floor he knew something bad will happen today. Perhaps soon. But it wouldn't matter - Yun was always ready for any challenge. He slipped into a fresh pair of clothes and left his room. As usual, the smell of breakfast was awaiting him. When he entered the kitchen, Yang was nowhere to be seen. Usually the patient twin waits for Yun. But breakfast still lay warm on the table, so Yun figured Yang stepped out for a little bit. In a short while, Yun had his fill, eating half of the food available. A growing boy needs nutrition after all. Even after he finished, Yang didn't show up. Yun didn't sense his brother's presence either. He put away his dishes, whistling a tune to keep his mind off of the bothering issue. He was still jumpy from last night's tournament. He decided to go to the training room and warm up a little. Yun reached to open the sliding doors. But just before he reached the handle, from behind, a lashing noise rang out in the halls, accompanied by a silent, but audiable wince from Yang. Yun's eyes went wide. "Bro'!!" he cried and frantically slammed the door open. "You naughty boy! How many times have I said to never use your fighting skills for your own selfish gain?" Gen snapped. "The local underground lords informed me the 'Twin Dragons' had entered their local tournaments for the prize money. Thus, I purposely set up yesterday's tournament to see if what they said was true. They were right." He shook his head. "I am thoroughly disgusted, especially since such an act came from the likes of you! Perhaps some of Yun's disobediance has rubbed off on you!" Yang clenched his teeth. His hand slowly grazed his cheek in where a red hand mark was beginning to form. He gazed upwards not angrily, but sadly. "...I'm sorry." Gen narrowed his eyes. "Sorry? Is that all you have to say for yourself? Sorry? One word will not take back the deeds you have done. Be quiet and receive your punishment!" He raised his hand to lash out once more. Yang did not move, nor try to run. Instead, he closed his eyes, steadying himself for the blow. The lashing sound rang throughout the household once more, but this time Yang was not on the receiving end. Yang opened his eyes, and to his shock, found that Yun had ran in to take the blow. Bearing the pain on the inside, not showing the hurt he felt, the storming dragon slowly turned his head towards his grandfather. "Gramps, don't blame Yang. He has nothing to do with this. It's all my fault, and I will take full responsibility for my actions." There was a pause. Then, Gen grabbed Yun by the collar and raised him in the air. "Insolent, disobedient boy. You have brought great shame upon the family and to the household. Get out!" And with that, Gen hurled Yun out of the training room. Yun crashed through the wall and landed in a pile of garbage bags. Shortly after, Yang came crashing beside him. "I don't want to see your faces here ever again!" The door slammed shut. Gen was out of sight. Rain slowly began to make its mark on the brothers. Yang looked at his brother sadly and sympathetically, but Yun wasn't watching. The older twin made no motion to move. More than his heart was hurting, his pride was hurt. True his intentions were good, but his means were bad. He didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings. Yun didn't want to defend himself - there was no honor in defending a shame. Slowly, Yang helped his brother to his feet. Yun forced a smile. "Gramps woke up on the wrong side of the bed." Yun grinned. Yang's hair was wet, covering the expression in his eyes. As usual, he was not returning the smile. Yun knew that Yang was giving one of his sympathetic looks. When the younger brother brushed his bangs aside, Yun found he was right. Patting Yang on the back, Yun added, "Let's go to the grocery. Gramps'll be over his temper tanturam soon." Walking together in the rain, the sounds of footsteps sloshing through puddles marked their trail. Along the way, the people stared at them, whispering or giving dirty looks. They must have found out about their underground escapade. Holding his head proudly, Yun waved to them. They didn't wave back. Yun's smile didn't falter. He wasn't going to let them get to him. Yang gave the crowd a quick glance before returning to look at the ground. The market was busy as usual. The outdoor crowd parted upon the arrival of the Twin Dragons, perhaps from fear. Yun approached the door and was promptly met by old man Gen. "Did I not tell you boys to get out of my sight?" Gen growled. "Don't shame the family business with your presences!" He lashed out at each brother and slammed the door shut. The crowd dispersed, some giving the brothers nasty or shameful looks. Yun looked down. The brim of his cap, with rain trickling off the end, covered his eyes. With a twitch of his head, Yang tossed his bangs to the side and held his brother's hand. Yun grinned back with a wink. "PMS lasts longer than I thought." By the docks, the outskirts of Yun and Yang's village, there lay many warehouses, some used and some abandoned. One of the relatively normal-looking ones secretly hid the location of one of the larger crime organizations. Hidden deep beneath the ground floor, no one would suspect their presence. A slimy middle-aged man known by his codename - Blacksoul, recognisable from the underground tournaments, angrily slammed some money on the ground. "Damn those Twin Dragons!" he growled. "Thanks to them we've gone nearly bankrupt! We've lost nearly half our sponsor money during the past 3 months. Argh, it wasn't bad enough that their father was a pain in the ass. Now they have to come and make my life miserable as well! Augh!" "There there, honeykins...Like father, like sons they say." his lovely assistant stroked his shoulders. Altacea was a blonde, American woman. An authentic prize for this side of the world. Blacksoul growled. "Ever since Lee joined my organization, I've had nothing but trouble. That man was the most incompetent person I've ever met. He never kills anyone, he never finishes a job, he doesn't care if he dies. I'm thankful Lee quit and ran away. But then he has to leave his sons behind. Those vile, uncouth brothers who are just as irresponsible as their father. What I'd give to crush them under my hands!" "Still, honey, you must admit those young brothers are quite capable. What do you say to hiring them?" "Hiring them? HIRING THEM??" Blacksoul's blood pressure rose a few degrees. "How dare you suggest that! I'd rather hire someone to send them to their grave instead!" "Which is why you hired me, good sir." spoke a seductive female voice lined with a french accent. From the shadows, she stepped out - a tall, attractive woman with lavish red hair that spilled off her shoulders. She had piercing eyes, her pupils appeared to be shaped like a cat's. Her blood red lips curled wickedly, revealing a set of white canines. The way she moved spoke that she was not one to be messed with. Blacksoul stood in turn and nodded to the leather-clad woman. "Yes, welcome, ah..." "Call me Succubus." the woman spoke. "I can assure you that I will take any means necessary to get the job done." "Yes, yes, I've seen your credentials." Blacksoul grumbled impatiently. He handed Succubus a file, including various photos. "These are the Twin Dragons, Yun and Yang Lee. They are the sons of Lee and grandsons of Gen, the Assassin Fist. Their fighting skills have been rendering my organization bankrupt. I want you to render them incapable of combat. Use any means necessary." Succubus nodded. "How much time will I be given?" "Two weeks." "Understood." she said with a nod, then left. Altacea strummed her fingers across Blacksoul's shoulders. "Did you need to hire such a woman for a simple job? You could have simply hired a few of your men to shoot the Twin Dragons. Saves time and money." "Yes, but at the same time, should I be caught, I will be framed for murder." Blacksoul smiled. "Succubus is reknowned for her intuitive ability. She likes to make her victims suffer deep trauma before she makes her kill. I will take great personal pleasure in seeing the Twin Dragons writhe in agony." And outside, the rain beared the echo of his laughter. Succubus went through the file. Ever so carefully she studied the Twin Dragons by every meticulous detail. Age, height, weight, blood type, hobbies, the list went on. As she went through all the basic information, she noticed a small detail. One that can give her a serious advantage. Licking her lips, she smiled in pleasure. A plan began to form in her mind. She raised her hand and summoned some of her henchmen. "Yes, m'lady?" "I wish for you to find these two." Succubus commanded, handing them a picture of Yun and Yang. A bolt of thunder hurled down and muffled the details of her plan to the world. "Make sure they are alive..." are what was heard above the rain. The men bowed. "Yes, m'lady." Side by side, Yun and Yang continued down the streets. Their travelling was aimless. They had nowhere to go. They only had each other, and that's what mattered in the end. The constant contact with wet clothes was beginning to soak into Yun, and he leaned over, breathing slowly. Yang grabbed his brother by the shoulders. "Hang in there, big brother..." Yun looked in Yang's worried eyes and grinned. "Don't worry, little bro'. It's just an overextended shower." The Storming White Dragon looked forward, then narrowed his eyes. Knowing it was danger his big brother saw, Yang followed the direction of view as well. A row of men in black stood in front of them. Judging from their ethnicity, they weren't from around these areas. What did out of town gangsters want with them in such bad timing? "They have rotten timing." Yun grumbled. To the gangsters he yelled, "Sorry, but if you want us to autograph your body parts, you gotta come some other time." The gangsters were unfazed by his remark. Instead of making the usual death threats, they pulled out guns. Yun shook his head. "Tsk... since when does a real man fight so cowardly?" he muttered aloud. Yang noticed his brother's slowly paling face. At this rate, Yun might catch a cold or even pass out. He was worried, but the current threat was more to worry about. The gangsters somehow must have understood Yun's quiet beration and put away their guns, instead opting to fight with their fists. "That's more like it." Yun put up his guard, staggering slightly. Yang did the same but set his focus to help his brother. Yun was in no condition to fight and it was clearly shown by the way he was handling this fight. Yang was trying his best to fend them off while supporting his brother, but to no avail, as it seemed that the men were multiplying. Finally, the number of men were too much for the Twin Dragons to handle. Some men grabbed Yun while some others grabbed Yang. "Let us go! Dammit, let us go!" Yun cried, wrestling with their grip. One of the men chuckled. "Feisty little boy. You deserve a rest." A swift blow struck the back of Yang's neck. The Flurry Blue Dragon fell limp. His head hung down with dripping wet bangs covering his face. With a surge of energy, Yun raced forward to his brother but was met with a similar fate. For the Storming White Dragon, the world went black. And all he could think of was Yang. When Yun awoke, he felt like he was dipped in a cold bath. His head was aching. With a moan he forced himself upwards. Garbage bags yielded to his weight. He stood and wrung the water out of his cap and clothing. He appeared to be in an alleyway somewhere near the docks. Grinning, he slapped the wet cap on his head. "That was a tough ride. Huh, bro'?" No answer. Puzzled by the empty silence, Yun looked around. Yang was nowhere to be seen. He checked the surrounding area, even under the garbage bags. Still, Yang was nowhere to be seen. Yun became a bit more frantic. He left the alleyway and looked around. He saw nothing but empty streets. Deep within, he couldn't feel Yang's presence either. "Yang? Hey, Yang, you can come out of hiding now." Still no answer. Alone, Yun tread along the wet, empty streets. No Yang here. No Yang here either. It wasn't like him to run off so suddenly. True, Yun often goes without his brother, but a gut feeling said that Yang hadn't just run off. Yun took off his cap and looked up at the rainy sky, silently wondering if higher forces above knew something he didn't. "Yang! Answer me, Yang!" When silence greeted him once more, he knew Yang was kidnapped. And it was up to Yun to find him. Back to the chapter archives | Back to the archive updates |
