"Opening Time" Darkness surrounded him. A light shone ahead, beckoning him to come. He walked closer to the light. His footsteps echoed. As he approached the light, he could hear the faint roars of a crowd grow louder. He came to the light. The doors opened. In front of him was the caged underground fighting ring. The crowd was packed, he had never seen anything like this. He stepped into the ring. The crowd went wild. Some crowd members even reached out to try and grab him. Their inchoherent roarings became more uniform until their cries was the chant of one name. "Yun! Yun! Yun! Yun!" "Yun!" "Yun..." "Time to wake up..." If Yun had said anything, nobody would have understood him. He was still asleep. His face was peaceful like an innocent little boy. His long hair, untied, was tangled in various directions. His snoring died down somewhat but he was still asleep nontheless. Yang stood by the bed with Tsuchin in his arms. He took a moment to shake his head at the mess. Clothes were strewn about and various objects were scattered around the floor. The brothers were certainly different in this respect. Yang kneeled down and whispered in Yun’s ear. "Big brother... time to wake up." Yun rolled over. A stray arm swept in Yang’s direction. The younger twin dragon quickly caught Yun’s arm before it smacked him on the head. Shaking his head, Yang looked at his cat. "Do you mind?" "Mew?" Tsuchin asked. Yang placed his kitty on Yun’s face. A few seconds later, Yun coughed, sputtered, and shot up like a rocket. Tsuchin flew in the air and was caught in Yang’s arms. "The hell...?" Yun groaned, spitting out some cat hair. "Are you trying to kill me with a furball or something?" Yang chuckled. "Its 10 o’clock. I’ll open the grocery. You’d better hurry, you’re better with customers than I am." With a teasing wave, Yang left the room. Yun scratched his head and groaned. He didn't believe he'd sleep in this late. Last night's dream began to replay in his head. 'I don't believe it, I'm dreaming about the underground tournaments now. Guess that's a good sign I'm gonna win tonight!' Yun hopped off the bed. It was time to start his day. Customers were already lined up at the door when Yang arrived. Greeting an occasional customer as he passed through the crowd, he unlocked the door. As soon as the door opened the people came piling in. Yang went behind the counter. Selling items was typically the job of Yun or a family assistant. Since Yang was the only one there, he took upon himself this job, though dealing with people was not his cup of tea. "Hey, cutie. Why the glum face?" asked a flirtatous female voice. Yang blinked. Standing before him were the three sisters, Mai, Ai and Ling Pha. They were the same girls Yun sold snails to last week. Today they wanted to buy a bag of tomatoes. Yang knew for a fact they proclaimed themselves to be Yun's largest fans, but for some strange reason, they were giving him the same smiles they would give Yun. 'Just shrug them off and everything will be fine.' Yang thought to himself. "I’m sorry. Yun isn’t available at the moment." Yang said briskly. "Please set your items on the scale." The middle sister, Ai, set the tomatoes on the scale. "That's okay, Yang. We can do without Yun for now because you're just as cute." Yang’s face flushed a brighter shade of red than the tomatoes. "... ....That’s $12.50, please!!" Giggles rang throughout the grocery. The people thought it was funny how calm, collected Yang gets embarassed so easily. The girls paid the money. Instead of promply leaving as Yang hoped, Mai leaned on the counter, eyeing him coyly. "So, Yang, are you busy tonight?" she asked. "Our parents will be out tonight. You can cook again for the three of us. What do you say?" '....Help?' "Hello, ladies and gentlemen. Sorry I'm late." Lo and behold, there was Yun standing by the open door. Yang didn’t know whether to be relieved or groan. His older brother was clad in his usual cap, black pants, sneakers, and biker gloves. Under his arm he carried his trusty skateboard. However, one minor detail caught Yang’s attention, as well as the attention of all the other customers - Yun wore no shirt. Instead, he wore a long sleeve blue jacket wide open in the front which shamelessly exposed his torso. A few of the customers whistled. Nobody gave him dirty looks. After all, this is Yun. "B-- big brother..." Yang was too at a loss for words to scold. Yun walked up to Yang. He looked at Yang, then at the ladies, then back at his brother. "Oooooh, now I understand. Excuse me for interupting your private time, Yang, ladies." he said teasingly with a tip of his hat. "Where are you going?" Yang asked. "Skateboarding. If you want to you can join me later on your rollerblades." Yun offered. "It's okay. I have work to do. Maybe next time." said Yang. Yun shrugged. "All right, suit yourself. Catch you later!" With the same teasing wave Yang gave him earlier that morning, Yun skipped out the door. Yang groaned at the situational irony. "Oh Yaaannnggg!" A big sweatdrop went down Yang's head. Maybe he should have went with Yun after all... Back to the chapter archives | Back to the archive updates |
