Rose Chapter 4 and Yun Chapter 16

"Mystic Eyes"

Yun raised his head to the sunny sky. A wide grin spread across his face as he stretched his arms, inhaling the fresh morning air. The dream of Makoto - whether it'd be real or not - lifted his spirits. No, it was real. He trusted his instincts, and they said her words were true. Yang is returning. So Yun decided to shape up before Yang comes home to a morbid big brother.

The sound of his skateboard hitting the pavement had never sounded better. With new energy, he raced off to the port to see what was going on.

Nothing different or unusual, Yun noted. Just same old business every day. However, when his eyes grazed the pier, he noticed a lady clad in a long dress sitting by the ledge, watching the seas flow. Her… unruly hair and scarf around her neck blew with the breeze. Yun had never seen her around these parts before. She had to be a foreigner. Slinging his skateboard under his arm, he approached her.

"Mind if I keep you company?" Yun asked, leaning over to face her. "Hong Kong's full of creeps - a pretty lady like you will need protection."

Rose sighed, not facing him. "If -you- want to, I can handle myself though."

Yun shrugged and sat beside her. "You ain't from around here, are ya? If you're lost, I'm your number one tour guide."

"Thank you for the offer, but I know what I need to do in this place." Rose replied simply.

Yun grinned. "Alrighty, then. But I'm still gonna sit here until I'm sure you're safe."

Some moments of silence passed. Watching the boats go by, Yun was reminded of his childhood - of when he used to take Yang here every day to watch the boats come in. His eyes became whistful.

"Hmmm? Is something the matter?" Rose spoke up.

Yun snapped out of his thoughts. "Huh? Nothing's a matter with me." he grinned.

"Oh really?" Rose asked skeptically. "I've been known for my....shall you say, psychic intuition. You can't really hide from it, especially something this big." She paused. "......so how is your brother?

A dagger stabbed Yun's heart. Rose was right on the money. He looked to the side. "He's been gone for awhile now - he was kidnapped. I wanna go after him, but I got the town to protect, ya know?" He leaned back, giving her a lopsided grin.

"I see, certainly I'm no psychologist but I must recite the cliche 'go with your heart'." Rose nodded. "And my experience is that things usually tend to balance and repair themselves."

"Yeah...." Yun stood and slapped his fist into his hand. "Then I'll go after him. I'm sick of waiting."

Rose smiled lightly. "He shouldn't be too far - "

"Really...??"

" - Though it is sometimes best for people so close to be seperated for a while."

That last comment irked Yun somewhat. "How would you know?"

"Perhaps, he hasn't returned because he doesn't want to be found." Rose suggested.

"Why not?" Yun asked somewhat loudly. "He needs his big brother to protect him. And... and... he has nothing to fear! I'll kick the crap outta anyone who'll bother him!"

But what he couldn't say with words, his heart said, "I'm depressed as hell and lonely without him. He's half of me and I'm dying without him around." Which was the main reason why he was blowing up instead of taking it easy. Rose understood and avoided grinning. 'Now I can understand his descision.'

"Sorry bout that." Yun regained his calm and tipped his hat. If two people said Yang was coming home in the same day, it was bound to be true. "So little bro's comin' home soon. I'm gonna throw him a welcome home party. You wanna come?"

Rose had a bad feeling towards that area. "Don't build expectations too high," she warned, "things may not be as you wish them to be..."

Those words hit harder than Yun let on. Instead of getting depressed, he simply said, "Is that so..." and grinned. He turned towards her. "So, has anyone ever told you you're beautiful?"

Rose grinned back. "Not if they value their reproductive organs. Especially with -those- thoughts."

"At your service." Yun declared, and with a grand bow he kissed the back of Rose's hand.

Just then, a car drove by. Its windows were tinted so no one could see who was there. Upon its arrival, Rose stood. "I....must be going now."

"Already?" Yun asked, slightly disappointed. He took off his cap and bowed. "Take care of yourself, m'lady."

Rose didn't turn to face him. She was obviously distracted. "Yes... untill another time."

An escort exited the vehicle and opened the door for her. Yun watched the door close, then the car drive away.

"Though it is sometimes best for people so close to be seperated for a while…." Rose had said.

To the common folk, it appeared that nothing was the matter with Yun. He was the same cheerful self, proven when he stopped a fight by punching the one responsible's lights out. But deep down, Rose's words hit Yun harder than expected, enough that he shunned his responsibilities to go home.

He locked the door behind him. He raced to his room. He shut the door silently, then barracaded it.

No one would be seeing him for awhile.
