Kyosuke Chapter 2

"Shattered Memories"

Hyo stopped breathing, too shocked to move. Anything else that had been said was oblivious to Hyo as he stood motionless outside the door. Hyo walked quietly away from the door, slowly moving down the hallway. He walked out of the building toward the dorms. When he got to his room, he sat down on the bed to think.

"Now what?" said Batsu, shrugging his shoulders. "We can't just walk in."

"Why not?" Hinata said, starting to climb the fence.

"She's right." Kyosuke said, "We can't all go. Someone will see us"

Hinata got to the top of the fence, jumping off and brushing herself off.

"I'll just look around." Hinata said, turning to leave. "Wait for me."

Hinata stopped, looking around anxiously.

"Someone's coming." She whispered to herself. She lay flat on the ground, motionless, behind a row of hedges. A group of students making their way to their dorms passed by, talking. One of the students turned back, hearing rustling in the bushes.

The other two tapped him on the shoulder to turn around and they left.

"Whew." Hinata said, wiping her forehead.

By now it had gotten dark and Hinata's search was becoming tedious.

She'd looked around most of the dorms and buildings and found nothing. She glanced down at her watch. 8:45.

"I have to go!"

She skipped the last building, rushing back towards the entrance.

Hinata screamed as she tripped, falling to the ground.

She felt a hard blow to her stomach as she got up. She tried to cry out in pain, but there was no air in her lungs to make a sound. Finally she was thrown down to the ground, beaten. She opened her eyes to see her attacker walking away, then fell down again, too weak to move.

"Hinata!" Batsu screamed, shaking Hinata's motionless body. "Hinata!"

Hinata open her eyes to see Batsu and Kyosuke hovering over her.

Batsu held out his hand to help her up.

"Are you okay?" Batsu said, turning to Hinata.

"I'll be fine." she said, holding her stomach.

"What happened?" Batsu said.

"I tripped and.and.I'm really not sure." Hinata said, brushing off her clothes.

"As long as you're okay." Kyosuke said.

"Let's go." Kyosuke said quietly, "It's getting late."

The three headed out of the campus, climbing the fence and heading back home.

"Hinata. Hinata." a little girl called, looking around.

She heard giggling behind a tree and moved closer.

"I found you, Hinata!" The girl said, tapping Hinata.

"Okay, Mina, good job."

The two girls lay down on the ground. It was a beautiful sunny day in the summer and Hinata and Mina, both no more than six, were playing in a backyard. The two girls stared up at the sky.

Suddenly, it started to pour and a large, dark cloud covered the sun. It was almost as dark as night, and only through the flashes of lightning could you see anything at all.

"Mina!" Hinata screamed, turning to see Hyo Imawano taking her.

"No!" She ran towards him, pounding on his stomach, too short to reach any higher.

Hyo kicked the girl, sending her flying back into the grass, which had now become mud.

"Mina!" Hinata screamed, crying.

She became older, now her present age, and the sky cleared up as Hyo left. Hinata was still crying.

Hinata sat up in her bed, sweating. It had been the fourth time since Mina had left that she had had the dream, but this was different. She never saw the kidnapper before. And she never attacked him before. The most surprising was that she had never gotten older when Mina was taken away. Only now.

"Hyo!" Kyosuke pounded his fist on the coffee table, almost knocking over the tea he was drinking.

"I thought he'd changed." Kyosuke thought, taking a sip of the tea. "Since the last incident, he'd become normal, making some friends during the summer and talking to people. When he left suddenly without a word it seemed weird, but I didn't think too much of it. But now."

Kyosuke shook his head, sighing.

"Now he's kidnapping people and attacking Hinata. I don't know what else."

Kyosuke turned to the cabinet next to him, with a picture of him and Hyo together from two months before. He picked it up, hurling it at the wall and shattering the glass.

Hyo picked up his red jumpsuit, sifting through the pockets to take out some change and taking off the armband so he could slip it onto his orange Justice High uniform. Ironically, Hyo's first class of the day was Japanese, taught by who else but Mr. Tokiyara. Hyo still wasn't sure why Tokiyara had been doing what he had but he was still scared. Why was Tokiyara talking about him? Perfect for what? These were things he'd have to piece together, Hyo decided, and he closed the door to his dorm, making his way to class.

The class was surprisingly normal; vocabulary, literature, etc. If not for the admission of a new student, Sinsuke Yoshizumi, the class would have been the same. The bell rang and the class started to head out. Sinsuke, who had been seated in front of Hyo, turned around to greet him when they got up. Sinsuke was tall, and thin, with short brown hair and had a pair of thin, silver sunglasses over his eyes.

"I'm Sinsuke." He said, putting his hand out to Hyo.

Hyo shook his hand.

"I'm Hyo."

"I just started at Justice High school, I just moved here." Sinsuke said.

"I'll see you around." Hyo said, trying to leave to his next class.

"Seeya." Sinsuke said, his sunglasses glaring at Hyo in the light.

Sayuri clicked her shoe nervously on the floor and tapped her pencil on her binder.

Calm Down! It's not that big, it's only the first day in a new school. In a new town.

The tip of her pencil snapped on her binder and she put her pencil back in her pocket, tapping her fingers.

The bus slid to a stop and everyone started to get out. Sayuri picked up her bag, heading out of the bus last.

Okay, here we go.

Hinata walked down the hallway, thinking. She turned the corner and bumped straight into another girl, knocking over her books.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" Hinata said, kneeling on the floor to help the girl pick up her books. "I wasn't looking." "It's okay." the girl said, taking her stuff from Hinata's hands. "I'm Hinata." Hinata said, putting her hand out.

The girl took her hand out from under her books to shake Hinata's hand.

"I'm Sayuri." She said, continuing to walk down the hallway.

"You must be new here." Hinata said, walking with her.

"I just moved here." Sayuri said.

"What's your first class?" Hinata asked.

"Math. Room." Sayuri leafed through some papers. "214."

"Same here!" Hinata said, laughing. "It's down this hallway."

The two girls walked down the hallway, talking.
