"Return of an Old Past" It wasn't her fault. Maybe I should have been more careful. Okay, actually it probably was her fault. Juli's the one who gave the order. The fact that I almost got killed listening to her wasn't because I messed up or anything. Still, I can't be angry. It's all part of the job. You don't get to be a Shadowloo special agent by baking cookies all day. Unfortunately, perfection is expected of us. I hope Juli wasn't discharged for her mistake. What would I do without her? She's been my partner ever since the Shadowloo saved me from the cold streets of... well, I won't go into THAT. Juni slowly got up from the hospital bed and looked around. Hmm... how long did I have to be hospitalized, anyway? I think I remember Dr. Yamoto mentioning before I blacked out that it would be two months. Has it been that long already? The girl walked up to the door and turned the knob, but to her dismay, found that it was locked. She put her ear against the door to see if anyone was outside, and could faintly hear the voice of the doctor from behind the metal walls. "Hey, I think that if I keep this up, we might be able to have special agents named for every month of the year." Dr. Yamoto laughed. There was a pause of silence before his voice changed to a surprised tone. "What? Okay, Juli, so I guess that joke wasn't in good taste. Juni should be ready any minute now. I just need to file some more papers then I'll check on her again." That's a relief. Juli's still around after all. Well, if it's really been two months, I guess I'd better try to catch up while I wait for Dr. Yamoto to arrive. Juni stared at the tall mirror in the room. Staring back at her was a blonde short-haired young girl wearing a black bodysuit and red gloves. She spent a few moments wondering why she was still dressed in her Shadowloo uniform and whether or not she wore it the entire two months she was in her coma, then simply shrugged it off as an oversight by the staff. To test how much shape she was in, she quickly practice a few high kicks before she found out the hard way that apparently two months without exercise can wreck havoc on one's physical state. Cringing and trying her hardest to not scream at the pain of straining her muscles, Juni decided to test her coordination instead. She prepared to perform a quick short cannon drill. Normally, this would result in her drilling feet first horizontally in the air, giving the person at the other end a painful meeting with her shoes, but this time she ended up flat on her back with a loud thud. And unfortunately the doctor and her partner chose that exact moment to finally check up on her. A young dark-haired man wearing a white labcoat was standing in front of Juni's partner, but instead of the worried or dissappointed look on his face that Juni expected, he looked shocked. Juni got up and brushed herself off, attempting to act like nothing was wrong while trying to figure out a decent excuse as to how a special agent like her could literally slip up like that. She quickly decided that maybe it would be a good idea to simply not bother giving one and leave it to her partner's and the doctor's imaginations. The "elite" Shadowloo agent saluted. "Good day Doctor Yamoto. Agent Juni ready to report for duty after a short reprieve." There was a slight pause while the doctor simply stared. Juli simply stood in the background and didn't do anything. Finally, the doctor sprang forward and hugged Juni hard. "Oh God! I can't believe it! You're really here! It's really you!" Juni gasped for breath, finding it sort of difficult to breathe with the doctor clutching her so tightly. "Dr. Yamoto, I didn't think the wound was that serious..." The doctor quickly backed up and regained his composure. "Er, you're right. It's just been a long time. Sorry about that. Why don't you get re-aquainted with your old partner? I have some records to fill now." The doctor quickly walked out of the room, although Juni noticed some tears in his eyes. Which was really odd, because she never recalled the doctor having any feelings for her before. Why did he act like that? Dr. Yamoto never acted like that around me before. It would be really awkward to discover something like maybe how he loved her all along and it took that dangerous incident to make him realize it... Juni decided that she'd ask Juli about that situation later. She walked up to her partner to see if she had changed at all during those two months. "You're finally awake." Juli remarked. Juni spent a few seconds observing her partner. Juli was a bit taller than she was, and she had brown hair and a bun. She was wearing the same Shadowloo body suit that Juni was wearing, and looked exactly as Juni remembered her. Except for one thing. Wow... I don't recall Juli being so... well... endowed before. She quickly realized that she didn't reply to Juli's remark, yet. "Oh. Yea! Of course!" Juli wasn't impressed. "You should be more careful next time. Bison doesn't tolerate failure." Was that a cruel joke? Juni decided to play along. "Affirmative. But I advise you be more careful, yourself, the next time we decide that it's your turn to give the orders." she replied, only half seriously. Apparently Juli didn't get the joke, because she seemed to be a little bit peeved off. "Oh, so it was my fault?" "Er..." Juni decided she must have really been out of it for those two months, since everything seemed so strange to her now. Dr. Yamoto was acting really wierd around her and now her partner was giving her the stare. "Don't you remember? You..." "Nevermind." Juli interrupted, although she was still clearly annoyed. "Forget it. I trust you're ready? We recieve our next mission tomorrow. There's no time for any more relaxation. Next time there won't be any mistakes, as long as you can fulfill your half of the job. You can do that, right?" "Of course." Juni quickly replied. "I'm just as fit as I ever was." "Very well then. We can meet up again tomorrow. I have some things to finish, today." The two agents nodded to each other before parting. Juni spent the rest of the day frantically practicing her moves and training her fighting abilities, praying that she'd be ready enough by tomorrow for her partner to not notice that she really wasn't very ready at all. |
