Juli and Juni Chapter 3

"Maximum Efficiency"

I'll be honest with you.  This is a filler chapter.  I suppose that you'd probably want to read about something else more interesting or relevant, but since nothing current could come to my mind, this will have to do.  I should start by introducing myself.  I am Agent Juni, a special enhanced elite soldier of the underground organization, Shadowlaw, officially known as Shadaloo to the outside world.  Normally, agents work alone.  But I've been working with my partner, Juli, ever since I can remember.  It's been really effective, to say the least.  We've been able to achieve a seventy-three percent efficiency rating each so far.  The percentage doesn't stand for the average percentile of missions that are a success.  Shadowlaw doesn't tolerate failure.  Actually, we're not sure what it stands for.  Although I do know that the times that I got shot have hurt our efficiency percentile rating quite drastically...

Agent Juli ignored the extreme pain in Juni's eyes as she carefully yanked another bullet out of Juni's arm.

"You see," Juli commented as she put the bullet in a bowl of water.  "Had you dashed out of the way point fifty-four seconds earlier, you would have avoided that.  Obviously more improvement is needed.  Unfortunately, I really can't give you much more advice than that because I still have yet to figure out how the heck you manage to do a mach slide dash on a whim so easily in the first place."

"You know,"  Juni slowly responded as she closed her eyes.  "You could at least give me a stick or something to grip when you're doing that."

"Pain is good for you.  It builds character."  Juli commented as she put another bullet into the water bowl.

Juni frowned, then slowly smiled.  "Next time, you'll take the scouting position so I get to be the bullet remover, right?"

"Hahaha, no."  The wannabe-nurse quickly wrapped some cloth around Juni's arm.  "You're the one with the self-healing ability, not me.  Speaking of which, exactly why you're not using it right now is beyond me."

The two stared at each other wondering what was supposed to happen next before Juli sighed and handed her partner a ration.  Juni held it and flashed for a second, then threw it away.  She then quickly removed the cloth around her arm and all of the wounds underneath were gone.

"Ta da!  Like magic."  Juni remarked with a smile.

"And that's exactly why you always get to do the more dangerous tasks in our missions."

"Doh..."

Juni stared at the box that they had managed to procure from the mission.  The all-important box which her partner and she got shot at, dodged through security cameras, kicked the daylights out of countless random generic soldiers, and risked their lives for.  She sighed as she opened the extremely valuable container and pulled out a pack of bullets.

"But damn, Juli, we've got to find a better way to get supplies!  Can't we just... um... BUY them?  They can't be that expensive."

The pack of bullets was quickly snatched away and put back into the box.  "Look, I've told you again and again.  Shadowlaw is an evil underground organization.  Note the word, underground.  This implies that either Shadowlaw never does anything legally because it'd be easy for the law to track us, or they have all of their bases underground, or both.  In this case, it's both.  Contrary to popular belief about evil underground organizations, they do not have an unlimited amount of supplies, men, and resources.  They're just really resourceful."

"Resourceful.  Um, okay, got it."

Frankly, I find it insulting that Janet's making us write these stupid things.  Though you might have already read this in the other journals, I guess I should start with who exactly we are.  The agents of Shadowlaw consists entirely of females because psychology tests have proven that they tend to resist intense psychological pressure more than males.  Our job varies from terminating or extracting data from specific targets, information access, espionage, and basically anything and everything which is too refined and too skill-demanding for the common grunts and henchmen to handle.  We are always Sir Bison's finest.  We answer directly to him and only to him.  Even his top commanders and right hand men barely have any knowledge of us, nor do they have any jurisdiction over us.  We are also do not socialize with anyone unless absolutely necessary, including other agents, with a few exceptions.  My partner Juni and I being one of them, of course.  As such, there are only a few other agents that I know well enough to be able to describe here, which doesn't really matter as there aren't very many of us in the first place, anyway.

"Cannon spike!  Overhead kick!  Spinning knuckle!"

The agent yelled the commands into her mike.  Janet watched and took down some notes as the other eight or nine girls air-kicked upwards and followed it with a circular overhead kick and then twirled into a quick punch attack in near complete unison.  Except for one of them.

Juni stared at her fist and attempted to twirl it a little.  She looked at it again before she noticed she was falling behind everyone else and decided to just forget about trying to perform a spinning knuckle move.

The current oddity of us all is my very own partner, Juni.  Last month it was Avelle, who got too powerful for her own good.  She ended up breaking apart from Shadowlaw and we had her blacklisted for a while.  What she's doing now is confidential information.  Then it was Cammy, the youngest of us and the first to achieve a hundred percent efficiency rating.  Everyone's extremely jealous of her.  Or at least I am, but I won't go into that right now.  The current popular rumour is that Cammy got that rating by becoming Bison's lover for it.  Although I don't question Bison's motives or actions and would give my life for him (Actually, I kinda already have), I can't help but shudder a little at the thought of some pedophilitic thing like that.  As for Juni, well, it's not just the fact that she's the only one who can't figure out how to do a simple spinning knuckle move.  She has an amazing self-healing ability.  Juni believes that the rations she takes is what recovers her, but for some reason I highly doubt that.  While that healing ability is perhaps the biggest oddity about her, the one which seems to be the most annoying, at least to one particular agent, is that Juni seems to require a preparation charge time before she can do her cannon arrow move.

The pink puffy-haired agent's voice continued to ring throughout the metal gym room as Janet stood next to her and took more notes on her observations.

"Fierce punch!  Roundhouse forward!  Ballerina kick!"

In near complete unison, all of the girls in the room punched and kicked accordingly.

"Cannon forward!  Return!"

At the signal, the agents on one half of the room flew across the room in a fast jump kick while the other half quickly propelled themselves spinning forward feet first in a makeshift drill, then quickly dashed back to their original positions.  Except for one of the cannon drill agents, who had just gotten her cannon forward move started as the others started their mach slide back to their starting points.  This resulted in her drilling right into the back of the unlucky short-haired brunette in front of her.

The unlucky agent that got the position in front of Juni and thus ended up getting kicked hard in the back by my partner every training session was Agent Fenrir.  Despite the fact that she's also supposedly Bremare Yamoto's good friend, I only know her a little.  From what I've seen of her, she tries too hard.

Fenrir slowly lifted her head up from the hard cement floor and wiped some blood from her mouth.  Juni dashed up to her and offered her a hand up and opened her mouth to speak, but Fenrir quickly turned and glared at her, causing her to be quiet.  Janet stopped speaking as she and many other agents gathered around Juni and Fenrir to see what would happen, next.  Juni accidentally beating up Fenrir like that wasn't new, but Fenrir never glared at her like she was doing at the moment.

Juni finally attempted to apologize for the hundredth time.  "Fenrir... I... I didn't mean to... well, you know... since like... this always happens... er, well..."

The stare continued.

"It's just that... I can't... I.... er...."

Continueing to glare at Juni, Fenrir got up and began walking towards her, causing Juni to stumble backwards.

"Urm... you're reeeeeeeeeeeaaaally really mad, aren't you?"  Juni backed up some more until she ran into her partner, whom she quickly dashed behind.  "Aaaaaaiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeee.............  Juli!!!"

Juli sighed as Fenrir waited for her to move aside.  "You know, I really don't appreciate it when you make my partner squirm like that."

Fenrir's stare was directed towards the new threat before she merely spoke three words.  "Oh f*** you..."  Her fist soon followed.

And finally, Fenrir's direct opposite is Agent Marzche, who pretty much spends her entire days eating, sleeping, and trying out new hair colors.  Exactly how she keeps her figure let alone keeps her job is beyond me.  I'd give you a scenario or anecdote about her, but there really isn't any.  She... she does nothing!  Even on missions, all she's good for is truck driving or monitoring her video-phone monitor.  There is one real use for her, though.  If she's around, she's good for taking Juni's place so Juni can do other things.  And that would be about it for all of the agents that I know well enough to talk about.

"Juni!  Operation human shield NOW!"

Juni shoved Marzche in front of her partner, resulting in Fenrir's punch slamming into the head of the would-be bystander.  The instant Marzche began to fall to the floor, Juli and Juni jumped over her and proceeded to kick the crap out of the distracted Fenrir.  Janet simply sighed but didn't bother to stop the three as Marzche frowned, got up, and proceeded to look for the bubble gum that she lost when Fenrir accidentally hit her.

Pain is good for you.  It builds character.

There are three people  in my life that I truly admire.  My own partner, Juli, my leader, Sir Bison, and my hero[ine?], Agent Avelle.  Juli makes a much better agent than I do.  I'm always striving to be more like her, but it's really hard sometimes.  Unlike me, Juli can actually perform her cannon moves almost instantly and she has a much more calm and cool attitude on the job than I do.  Despite the fact that we have been working for Shadowlaw for about the same amount of time, she acts so much more experienced and overall if our efficiency rating were measured individually, she'd probably score higher than me.

"What are you doing now?"  Juli glared at her partner then looked at the lawnmower she was holding.

"What?  What does it look like I'm doing?  I'm mowing the lawn, of course."

"Oh, that's good.  I was worried that your lawnmower was actually an alien device that you brought with you to earth and was meant to zap the world with a brainwashing wave causing everyone to become your mindless slaves."  Juli sarcastically replied, before screaming, "Of course I know you're mowing the damn lawn!  Now WHY?  We have custodians for this type of thing."

"Hmph."  Juni stared at the mass amount of weedage that managed to grow around the entrance to the Shadowlaw base.  "What kind of custodian would allow Sir Bison's lawn to become overrun like this?"

"An EVIL custodian.  One that belongs to an EVIL organization like Shadowloo."  Juli sighed and motioned to her forehead.  "Look, try to keep it up here, okay?  Where did you get that lawnmower anyway?"

"I brought it with my paycheck."

"We don't get paid."

"We do get paid!  Er, sorta.  Well, I used Dr. Yamoto's paycheck."

"You what?!?  N... nevermind!  I don't want to hear about it."

Juli turned away, then turned around and looked at Juni.  The two once again gave each other awkward glances before Juni finally commented, "Gee, we do that often, huh?"

Before a response could be made, an agent's voice boomed across the area.  "Attention all agents!  Evaluation starts in t-minus three minutes!  Report to Sir Bison at once!"

I don't believe that Sir Bison or Shadowlaw is evil like Juli says they are.  Maybe I'm just naive like that.  Bison has a dream, and he's merely following it.  As for the reason as to why I admire Sir Bison... well, he's Sir Bison!  Is there anything more that needs to be said?  Sir Bison is our leader, our mentor, the reason for our existence.  He is the commander, the father, the battosai, and the master.  Bison is, in a word, perfection.  There is nothing more I can say.

"I want results, and I want results NOW!!!!!"

With a look of extreme fear on their faces, Bremare, Janet, and Senoh quickly dashed out of M. Bison's office.

Bremare wiped some sweat off his brow and frowned.  "What an asshole..."

The female scientist sighed and knelt against the wall before turning to the disgruntled doctor.  "You know, I'm supposed to kick your ass for saying that, but I won't because I'm actually in agreement with you."

Bremare Yamoto glared back at the doorway he had just recently run out of with his two cohorts.  "I don't see why he complains about me.  I only got signed on this project a short time ago.  I barely even know what the hell a psycho drive IS."

"Maybe if you all weren't such lazy incompetents..."  Fenrir muttered.

Juni, who had been watching the three during that time along with Fenrir, quickly saluted.  "Good day, Dr. Yamoto, Dr. Janet, and Dr. Pikachu.  Agent Juni reporting to Sir Bison for duty!  Is he available right now?"

Unlike anyone else, including his valued scientists and even the other lesser lords of Shadowlaw, Sir Bison treats us with respect.  That's how special we are to him.

The physically-fit red-suited man with the red colonel hat walked back and forth among several of the agents before stopping in front of one of them. Although not extremely large, he had an intimidating and commanding aura around him.

"How are my beautiful dolls today?"

Juni slowly closed her eyes and smiled as M. Bison held her chin up and looked at her.

"Prepped and ready, sir!"  The girl next to her beamed.

Even the normally quiet Fenrir and extremely passive Marzche smiled in the presence of their leader.  Juni's partner, however, was notably missing.

Somedays we simply get an evaluation.  Bison checks up on us personally.  Even if it's just for a moment, it's a very wonderful one.  Recently, however, Juli's been missing those evaluations.  I don't know how she could even think of doing something like that, but I'm sure she has a good reason for it.  Getting back on topic, following dreams would probably be why I look up to Agent Avelle so much.  Or Ex-agent Avelle.  I'm not sure if she's been officially discharged yet.  If she was, she still works for Shadowlaw as a freelancing mercenary, I believe.  Anyway, Avelle wasn't merely content with being an agent for Shadowlaw.  She went out into the world and made a name for herself.  Of course, I can't be like that since Sir Bison greatly frowns upon such things and I'm pretty content with my life as it is, but it's still a fun fantasy to dream about one day becoming free and independent like Avelle did.

Juli stared at the disks in her hands.  "You got Dr. Yamoto to give you Avelle's journal disks?  I didn't even know she HAD a journal on disk.  How did you do that?"

Arching her eyebrows, Juni leaned forward and slowly smiled.  "I was very persuasive."

Her partner stared at her wide-eyed before backing up in shock.  "Ew.... ew ew ugh yuck!  That's... ack!  DON'T DO THAT!  It makes you seem like Avelle, and you have no idea how much that freaks me out."

"Relax!  I was only joking.  I just asked nicely and he gave me them."  Juni laughed.  She then leaned forward and arched her eyebrows again as she whispered into Juli's ear.  "Reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaally nicely."

"ARGH!!!"  Juli ran out of the room.

Okay, that was mean.  Juli doesn't like Avelle for some reason.  But while Juli's like a sister to me, it's rare for me to get the chance to toy around with her like that.

Why do all the promiscuous ones get all the breaks?  The day Agent Avelle decided that she'd rather hang out in a bar flirting with a hundred and one guys at a time was also around the same time that her popularity and power soared, most likely BECAUSE she flirted with a hundred and one guys at a time.  Maybe Sir Bison prefers it that way.  Nowadays Cammy doesn't even wear the standard issue black bodysuit, or at least the bottom half.   She opps for painted camouflage instead, making her custom uniform almost resemble a swimsuit.  At least it still has sleeves, though.  Sometimes I wonder if those rumours about her being Bison's doll toy are true.  I seem to have underestimated Sir Bison's attraction to that girl.  She's now going to become Sir Bison's personal bodyguard.  I should have been Sir Bison's...

Juli looked up from the computer and sighed.  Was it another evaluation day?  She was so sure that she'd get that special promotion after the problem of Avelle had been taken care of.  Was Juni just a constellation prize?  Actually, Juli had grown to like having her partner around, but still... Odds were that Cammy would be by Sir Bison's side during the evaluation.  It hurt.  To purposefully miss Sir Bison's evaluation just for something as small as that.  One time, when an agent was late to the evaluation and Sir Bison didn't even give her a glance, that agent burst into tears.  Juli glared at the computer, then angrily typed in some commands.

Journal entry deleted by Agent Juli.  Whatever the hell you're making us type these things for, Janet, I'm not going to let you look into my personal thoughts THAT easily.

The agent's voice came from the loudspeaker again.

"And now that pay day is over, we end yet another day of service to Sir Bison.  All please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.  Please?  Come on!  I've thought really deeply and worked really hard on writing it!"

Many of the agents in the room groaned.

"Those that say the pledge get a cookie!"

Silence.

"Those that say the pledge get a ten percent bonus in their paycheck!  And we know our dollars are all signed by Sir Bison, himself!"

A whole lot of shrugging was done before the group finally began to stand up.

"There!  All better!  Now for the pledge.  I pledge allegiance to Sir Bison, of the united world under Shadaloo.  And to Sir Bison, for which we stand, one nation, under Sir Bison, indivisible, with liberty and justice for... Sir Bison!"

Juli stared at the dollar bill in her hand.  In the center of the piece of paper was a mini-portrait of M. Bison.  "Hmm.... real pay would be nice, wouldn't it?"

"Well, this 'money' will be worth something someday when Sir Bison finally conquers the world."  Juni commented as she put the bill in her purse.  "Still, I think I should have chosen the cookie, instead."
