Jedah Chapter 2
"The Out-Of-Towner"
Snow was falling in Moscow
at night. That wasn't unusual, but Olga Alekseyevna was a Gypsy Seer
and there was something ominous about this particular night. She didn't
know what though. All her powers could muster was a deep sense of dread.
And it was situated in the backalley she was on.
And it was growing. Fast. But the alley where her caravan was situated
at
was at the other end of the street and she couldn't turn back. She quickened
her pace.
As she reached the middle of the street, she felt a sudden massive outburst
of mystical energies. And suddenly, a portal ripped open in the middle
of the street, casting an eerie purple light on the buildings. She screamed
a warning and quickly dropped her groceries and began muttered prayers
and wards against evil.
Then Jedah stepped out. Olga screamed. She'd read about demons, but
to actually see one in person was something she was not prepared for.
She backed away, screaming prayers to whatever god was listening.
Jedah regarded her coldly. "What?" He snapped. He spoke, but
since Olga did not speak English, and she was too terrified to do anything
other than scream, he got no answer. He looked down and saw the problem.
"Ah. I take it you Ningenkai people don't get many people like
me." He quickly uttered an arcane phrase and his appearance suddenly
changed. He was now a tall man with blonde hair tied back in a ponytail,
no facial hair and wearing a purple shirt, pants, and trenchcoat with
a red tie. But Olga was
not fooled. The demon had changed his form, but his eyes gave it away.
They were completely red. Red as blood.
Jedah realized he was still holding Ba'al and quickly came to the conclusion
that holding a scythe in public would be too eye-attracting. He quickly
dispelled the Rune Scythe.
Suddenly, some men rushed out from a lot at the end of the street. Jedah
could also see lights flicking on in the various apartments over the
stores and other buildings. He rolled his eyes as they reached the woman.
She was screaming and pointing at Jedah in a tongue he didn't recognize,
a Ningenkai
dialect of some sort.
Olga frantically explained what had happened and the Gypsy men immediately
turned Jedah. They spat curses at him. He shrugged and quickly threw
a Spregio fireball at them. It exploded on contact and fried one of
the men. Jedah regarded the remaining men, who had thrown themselves
down on the
street floor they way a lion would regard an ant, and then he turned
and walked down the street, leaving the Gypsies staring at the burning
corpse that had once been their comrade.
Jedah picked up
some sunglasses that he liberated from a storefront window. Then he
set about to finding out where he was. The next day found the Vampire
Saviour wandering the streets of this strange city. It snowed constantly,
and the people all dressed in fur hats and heavy coats. Jedah's purple
shoes crunched in the snow. He paused to look through a window and saw
books in the window. He looked up at the store's sign, and of course
understood none of it. He shrugged, and feeling he had nothing else
to do at that moment, entered the store. After all, where there were
books, there
could be maps.
He entered the store and found it to be a large-ish bookstore. People
milled about on various book-related ventures that held no particular
interest to Jedah. He wandered around the bookstore for a few minutes,
searching for any maps. Finally, he got so irritated he started ripping
books from the shelves and throwing them down onto the ground snarling
in fury. That caused people to notice him. A woman came up and started
yelling at him in that damned gibberish she called a language. Jedah
ignored her and continued to scream in frustration and rip books from
the shelves. The woman grabbed him by the shoulder and Jedah immediately
threw her into the nearest shelf. It toppled over, books flying everywhere.
Immediately the other people did two things. One, they went to the woman,
or two they rushed Jedah. Big mistake Angered, Jedah summoned Ba'al
and literally tore into the first man in a spray of blood and gore,
plunging the blade of the Rune Scythe into his chest, ripping apart
his internal organs. As the man fell, Jedah did not bother to remove
the Rune Scythe, but immediately whipped around and laid down a spread
of Spregios, igniting the flammable paper books and wooden shelves as
well as completely incinerating two people. The people who had been
attending to the woman immediately forgot about her and fled out the
door, leaving just her and Jedah among the burning store. He stepped
through the flames, picked the woman up by the cuff of her shirt and
spoke, venom dripping from each word that flowed from his mouth.
"Where do I find MAPS, you worthless piece of trash?!" He
screamed.
The woman's glasses slid from her face as she sobbed something incomphrensible
in her native tongue. Jedah screamed and threw her like a rag doll across
the room-straight into a fire induced by the Spregios that had come
from Jedah. He paused as he listened to the woman scream as she
burned. Then, as an afterthought he summoned the souls of the recently
departed to him, feeding on their souls. They were mere humans, and
weak, and therefore not very filling, but still, he could have used
a light snack.
He heard noises off in the distance. WHOOP-WHOOP-WHOOP-WHOOP, getting
closer Jedah grasped Ba'al and dispelled it. He walked calmly out the
front door, his anger gone, and he stepped out into the street. People
were gathered in front of the street, and Jedah stepping out made all
the people
stand back. He recognized several people who'd escaped from the bookstore
among the crowd. He paid them no heed and walked straight forward. People
scurried out of the way for him. Then strange machines-cars, if Jedah
remembered came down the street. There were three black and white ones
with little flashing thingies on top of them, and one large one with
many different attachments. Jedah continued walking down the street.
Several men in strange Ningenkai uniforms got out of the smaller cars
and began shouting at the spectators. Immediately everyone started shouting
and pointing at
Jedah. He paid them no heed and continued walking down the street. He
heard more people screaming, but didn't understand them, so he kept
walking. Then he heard a loud noise, and something hit the pavement
next to him. A small chunk of metal had cracked the road. That caused
Jedah to turn around. The men had weapons pulled out at him-guns he
recalled them being called.
They shouted something at him. Jedah shrugged and raised his arm. The
people stiffened, but did not fire. Then Jedah brought his hand down."Dio
Cega." He whispered. Immediately, a large spinning blade flew from
his fingertips and slashed into the lead man. He was ripped into two
neat pieces. The youngest man doubled over and began retching at the
sight. The older, more experienced men began to open fire. The bullets
riddled Jedah, and his black blood began shooting from the wounds. He
opened his mouth and coughed up similar blood and he fell to the ground.
His eyes shut.
The police approached him slowly. Alexi knelt down and fingered the
black
liquid before pulling his hand away. [Burns...] He muttered. [Who the
hell was this guy?]
[Whoever he was, he's gotta be the guy who burned up that Gypsy last
night.] Captain Sasha mused. He looked up to the store. [Looks like
the firecrews are doing an admirable job of stopping the fire.]
[Yes, Cap-*Gack*!] Sasha looked down to see Alexi's throat being crushed
as the man's hand shot up, wrapped his fingers around the Russian's
throat, and squeezed. There was a sickening snap and crackle as Alexi
died.
Jedah sat up. "Well, that wasn't very nice." He commented
before throwing a Spregio at point blank range at the circle of men.
It struck one man full on, and he exploded like a meat balloon. It send
the other men flying. Jedah rose-and rose-and rose, until he was floating
a good 10 metres off the ground, hovering there like a fallen angel.
[Good...God...] Sasha whispered.
Then, Jedah swopped down, grabbed one of them men and then flew straight
up, the terrified man squirming in his grip. They rose, and then, Jedah
dropped him. The man fell screaming to the paved street below, but suddenly,
Jedah was drilling into his back-literally. He had used his inherent
Darkstalker abilities to change his feet and legs into a drill and was
literally drilling into the poor officer, speeding his fall. At the
last moment, Jedah cancelled the transformation and leapt away, and
the poor soul hit the cobblestones.
Captain Sasha had seen enough. {RUN!} He screamed at his three remaining
officers. [RUN!]. The police needed no further heed. They broke and
ran, forgetting their cruisers and ran from the street. The fight had
been witnessed by the firecrews and the civilians, who were also fleeing.
However, they'd put the fire out so it wouldn't spread to the other
buildings. Pity.
Jedah turned and left the opposite direction.
As they day progressed,
Jedah still had no idea where he was. He'd had several more encounters
with the uniformed men, which had resulted in more property damage and
death. As night fell, Jedah came to a backalley and dispelled his illusion.
He mentally opened a channel to Mikai and was soon answered.
My lord, you respond sooner than I had anticipated.Sabbath noted,
his voice floating through Jedah's dark mind.
I still don't have any of the Three, if that's what you mean. I don't
even know where in the Nine Hells I am! Jedah snarled mentally.
Can you not ask the locals? I am sensing a very large amount of souls
all around you.
They are of NO help when I cannot understand a word they speak!
Jedah snapped.
There was a pause. Suddenly, the High Arcanist began to chuckle. It
quickly turned into laughter. What's so funny, Sabbath? Jedah
asked.
My lord forgets the Speak Tongues spell. Remember? The spell that,
for a small expenditure of mana, allows one to speak all known languages,
be they demonic or human.
Jedah paused. Suddenly it came back. Oh yes, I remember now.
Jedah said slowly. Hmm. I forgot it...Or rather, knowing me, I made
myself forget it so I could have more fun when I arrived on Earth. I'm
like that, you know.
Very good, my Lord. Of course, you're up the creek if you have to
read anything, since the spell only works on spoken, not written words.
Sabbath chuckled.
Right. I'd better got a move on. I have a feeling I should get out
of wherever I am before some more humans come by.
Yes my Lord. Keep me posted. And Jedah cut the connection.
Jedah quickly invoked the spell and was suddenly filled with knowledge
of tongues. He stepped out of the alley and into the street and began
walking. Eventually, he'd come to the edge of this city, and he'd run
into country. He could find a smaller town and find out where he was
there.
[And then he turned
into a drill.] Sergeant Orloff finished.
{Yes sir.] Sasha said, nodding. It had been like this for hours, having
paperwork to fill out for the deaths of the people under him and then
being interrogated by a series of officers. More reports had come in
of gruesome deaths by the strange man in purple. With no name, they'd
started calling him Violet, or Violent Violet.
[Are you sure about this? It is not every day that you see something
like that] Orloff said.
[With all due respect, sir, I know what I saw. He threw fireballs, could
summon a sickle, could fly, and could summon blades from nothing!].
Sasha regretted what he'd just said. But this was getting so frustrating.
[I understand that, but what human could-]
[Human. Exactly] A female voice interrupted them. Both men looked up.
Police Chief Burgasov stood at the door, two people backing him. There
was a woman, with long, flame red hair dressed in black with a trenchcoat.
She wore a cross pendant around her neck and had holster on each hip
with
revolvers tucked in them and daggers tucked in her belt. The man was
big and broad, with a black moustache. He had ammo belts containing
small vials, big enough to fit into a gun, of water, was also wearing
a cross pendant over his black sweater. He had a longsword strapped
to his back. Both had scars crisscrossing their faces, and the man had
a large scar diagonally on his
face.
[Gentlemen, I would like to introduce Anastasia Romanov and Piotyr Kolodenko.
Experts on the supernatural] He said as they passed him and came around
the table. [You may leave, Sergeant.] Orloff nodded and left.
[What we are dealing with here is no human. Far from it.] The woman,
Anastasia said.
[A demon. Most likely a greater being.] Piotyr Kolodenko continued.
[You did not see the beast's true form?]
[No, sir.] Sasha said. [All I can give you is a physical description-]
[Of its human form, which it can change easily.] Romanov cut him off
calmly. [Did you hear it speak?]
[Yes...It said something in...English, I think.]
Romanov and Kolodenko exchanged glances. [A western demon. Intriguing.]
She said.
[Not a vampire, it was daylight when it attacked the bookstore.] Kolodenko
said, nodding.
Romanov turned to Chief Burgasov. [Do not attempt to close any roads
out of Moscow. If the demon wants out of the city, it will find a way
out at the cost of more lives. They live to kill. We will track it using
the physical description you have given us. Send the order out-if any
of your men see the
beast, tell them not to try and apprehend it or they will be
killed. There is no maybe. If they see it, tell them to contact Mr.
Kolodenko and myself immediately. You will give them our contact numbers]
Orloff nodded. Romanov turned to her partner. [Come Piotyr. We have
a demon to kill]
And the two demon hunters left the room without further words, leaving
Chief Burgasov and Captain Sasha.
