Chapter Archives - Hol Horse

Character Background: Papa Horse was a pretty strict Pa, always makin' sure Hol worked for his share of the beans. Hol had to work alongside his pa to rustle up dem cows day and night, and those cows just got tiring with all them stupid mooin'. Though what Hol really despised was having to milk the damn things. So, anyway, Hol was just a rustlin' hustin' boy who heard that real cowboys were supposed to be a rustlin' up cows, too! Yea, those daring gunslingin' cowboys in those western films. But what kind of life was that? Hol wanted to be a gunslinger type of cowboy! So one day, in accordance with what a prophetess Enya told him, Hol wished upon a shootin' star! Wishin' for a gun ta call his own, see? Then he saw in his hand that he had his gun! Right after said shootin' star ended up slamming into his hand. Which just really hurt like hell, ya know? He didn't know why the star decided to do that, but it granted him his wish, so he was one happy little tyke! And now with his gun, he could do more than just rustle up some cows! He could shoot things! But Papa Horse eventually got really mad, sayin' stuff like "Son! Stop shootin' dem cows!" But what the hell else was Hol supposed ta shoot? His Pa? Nah, Hol figured he couldn't do that. Especially since ever since that star came a knockin', Papa Horse got like, this scary steed of DEATH that always gave Hol nightmares. But he wanted ta do somethin', and shooting cans just wasn't very stylin' for a great gun slinger as himself. Especially since he never missed! Even when he pointed that gun in the opposite direction, the bullets would always come a comin' back ta shoot dem cows! Erm, cans. So Hol did what any good ol' gunslingin' cowboy had to do to get some targets. He became a hired killer! And after that, life was pretty grand and there was no turnin' back.

Hol Horse has a very suave and sophisticated cowboy style personality. He's always acting cool and collected, and tries to be as stylish as possible. Deep down, however, he's a coward. Though... not exactly cowardly in a bad way, see? Throughout his days as an assassin, Hol realized that being an assassin is a dangerous job. Constantly having your own life in danger as you go after your targets tends to make one become conscientious of their own mortality really fast, especially since it wasn't long before Hol found himself going up against other stand users with stronger stands than his, ya know? But Hol couldn't stop being an assassin, since that was his way of life, so instead he just became really cautious. Due to this, Hol DESPISES working alone without someone to either watch his back, or stand in front and draw fire while Hol uses the long range ability of his Emperor to deal out controllable seeking death (or while Hol runs the hell away if things go bad). When the going gets rough, Hol gets going. His two mottos fast became "Run away, live to fight another day" and "Always be Number Two" because number one is always the first to die.

Character Plans: I'm going to be concentrating heavily on a style of plot similar to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (well, similar to Series 3, at least) with a little slice of life thrown in. Mostly, the plot will concentrate simply on Hol's various escapades as he goes up against (or teams up with) extremely odd or interesting (hopefully) stand users. Many will be cannon characters he interacted with in the manga such as his first partner, J. Geil, though of course there will be many new ones. Basically Hol just wandering around meeting, teaming up with, or fighting extremely wierd people. This will include other authors for co-writes, though a lot of Hol's plot will be solo. A lot however will also be with various other conflict oriented writers (many stand users, many not), and Hol will be involved with a multi-authored assassin association. The most interesting aspect of Hol's solo plot, and perhaps his co-writes (though I don't think it'll be that way for his co-writes since conflict co-writes are a pain) I assume will be in the conflict as all the wierd stands interact with each other, as well as the comedy value of the various wacky characters. Besides just exploring attack and counter attack, there'll be many other ways that stands will interact with each other for outrageous (I hope) and entertaining results, just like in the manga. There will still be a lot of character based stuff. Hol has to deal with his pa, his partner's angry mom, and an almost underage girlfriend who just won't let go, but overall... yea, shiny stand fighting fun instead of the heavy character developmental plots I usually write.

Character Strength: Hol's a reasonably good fighter... well, okay, he's really not very skilled in up close combat, even though he is rather strong and in shape. He mainly however relies on his stand, the Emperor. The Emperor is a pistol that fires bullets which Hol can control with only a minimal amount of concentration. The bullets are about as deadly as you'd expect a pistol to be, with the added bonus that they can hurt stands too because Hol's bullets are a part of his stand. In addition, Hol almost ALWAYS has a partner along if he can help it (which he usually can), and his stand works very well in conjunction with others. As a really simple example which is probably too boring for me to actually write about, while someone with a powerful defensive stand is up front, Hol can fire from behind and make the bullets work their way around his partner and to the target. Hol also is smart enough to use the Emperor for indirect purposes if needed too, as one can do more with a gun than just shoot people than you'd think.

Character Weakness: Hol's stand works best in conjunction with other stand users, but alone it's kinda crap. This goes along very well with Hol's personality to never work alone. While a gun with directional bullets might seem powerful, compared to the extreme abilities of other stands, it just really isn't effective by itself. In addition, once combat gets up close and personal, Hol's definately not in a good situation. He can fight a little up close with side kicks and smacking foes with his brief case, and definately isn't a complete pushover, though it's still extremely a struggle with anyone who has some actual real martial arts ability, and odds are pretty good that even a nonstand user could beat him up close if they're a remotely decent fighter.
